The Everest base camp trek through 3 passes above 5000 meters (Renjo-la (5370m), Cho-la pass (5230m) and Kongm –la (5535m)) is a wonderful challenging high trek. This trek is a little more physical than the classic Everest base camp circuit and is therefore reserved for well-trained people with experience of walking at altitude… It is the land of the Sherpas surrounded by many peaks over 8000m, such as Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, and Cho-oyu, etc. This culturally rich region Sherpa, Buddhist, Tibetan etc…
ImjaTse, better known as Island Peak, is a mountain in Sagarmatha National Park was named Island peak in 1953 by members of British Mount Everest expedition because it appears as an Island in a sea of Ice when viewed from Dingboche. To climb Island Peak, one has option of starting from basecamp at 5087m starting the climb between 2 and 3 A.M. Another popular option is to ascend to High camp at around 5600m to reduce the amount of effort and time needed for summit day. Island peak is one of the easy climbing peaks in Khumbu valley.
Whether below 4000m or above 5000m, there will be wonder and adventure at every step!

We leave Kathmandu in the morning for a superb flight to Lukla where we meet our porters who share the loads. Gentle descent then small ascent along the Dudh Khola (the river of milk in Nepalese) to Phakding.
We go up the Dudh Khola River, with the magnificent Himalayan pines bordering our route. Several bridges make us change banks according to the meanders of the river. Steep climb to the capital of Khumbu (Sherpa country). On the way we admire the Thamserku and from time to time we see Everest.
We climb into a small forest and admire for the first time the high peaks of Khumbu (Everest, Lhotse, and Ama Dablam), we arrive in the villages of Kunde and Khumjung. It may be possible to visit Hillary High School and the Hillary-initiated Kunde Hospital.
We leave Namche Bazar towards the west to enter a narrow valley where we meet some yaks and their Sherpa shepherds coming down from the pastures – In Thame, we visit the monastery perched above the village – Magnificent view of the Thamserku (6 608 m).
Gradual climb towards Langden, we may come across yak caravans with Tibetans coming down from Nangpa la in Tibet to sell or exchange Chinese products in Namche Bazar.
We climb the Renjo Pass (5,365 m) first on a regular path, we pass splendid turquoise blue lakes and then the climb becomes steeper before the grand finale! Prayer flags and red-billed choughs welcome us. We are enjoying one of the most beautiful, if not the most beautiful, views of the trip! From Cho-Oyu to Makalu via Everest and Lhotse to name just the 8,000! Steep but magnificent descent on Gokyo and its turquoise lake!
We make the return trip in the morning. The very easy climb to Gokyo Peak (5,280 m) is worth it, as it offers a superb view of the magnificent peaks of Khumbu that surround us. The south face of Cho Oyu (8,153 m) stands out, as well as Ngozumba and Gyachung Kang (7,922 m), but we also see Changtse (7,553 m), Everest, Lhotse (8,501 m), the Pumori (7,145 m) and even the Makalu (8,463 m). We overlook the Ngozumba glacier, behind which our view is on Ama Dablam (6,812 m), Kantenga (6,799 m) and Thamserku. Then, we descend the valley to Dragnag, on the left bank of the Dudh Kosi, opposite the frontal moraine of the Ngozumba glacier.
Climb the pass in an old glacial valley on a good path which ends with an old screen. Splendid view of all the surrounding peaks. We descend on a glacier and evolve on it before going back down to the Dzongla pastures.
We reach Lake Tshola on the mountainside to the Lobuche mountain pasture and continue our ascent to the Gorakshep lodges. An atmosphere of pure High Mountain!
The hardest and most beautiful day of the trip! Slow ascent to the bottom of the valley, to climb Kala Pattar (5,630 m) which constitutes one of the foothills of Pumori (7,145 m) and the most beautiful belvedere in the region – Superb view of “the Ice Fall “from the Khumbu glacier, the Nuptse (7,878 m), the Lhotse (8,481 m) and of course Everest (8,848 m), whose name is” Sagarmatha “for the Nepalese and” Chomolungma “for the Tibetans.
